Sitting down to scribble some words for my first newsletter as DC it allows me a few minutes to reflect on what has been a fairly full on and hectic 4 months of my life. There I was back in September/October time quite content with my life as District Chair, Chairman of Lochearnhead Management Committee and Board Member/ Trustee of the SATC; and then just a few phone calls and meetings later that was all to change!!!
Fair to say I inherited a very full ‘in tray’ however with everybody’s help and cooperation we are at long last starting to make some serious head way. Still some way to go, but I now feel the situation is at least becoming manageable.
Part of that process was to fill the vacant positions so I’m pleased to welcome Vicky Langston as District Secretary and D of E Advisor, Jeremy Bartlett as Chairman of the Appointments Advisory Committee (AAC), Linda Hansen is back as AAC Secretary and Alison Lyall is taking on the role as Badge Secretary (start date still to be agreed). Priority is now to the find a new Chairman and ADC Beavers.
As I start to get out and about meeting all the Young People and the Leaders, it is clear that there is lots of very good Scouting going on right across the District which is great and is reflected in this year’s census where there is a small rise in the number of Young People, up 26 on 2017.
I’m very much on board with the slogan hashtag #OneDistrict (thanks Sim) and that theme is going to be one of the key drivers going forward as we work to build a stronger and better District.
To kick start that process we are re-establishing an on-going programme of District Events and Activities, these will only be a successful if they are supported so watch out for further details and information.
That’s it for now folks… hope to see lots of you at the Night Hike and the Handicraft Competition.
