January – March 2018
Network in Mid Herts have been particularly busy this first quarter of the year, participating in a wide variety of events; taking place throughout the County!
January: We attended the annual County Network quiz, this year, hosted by Ware District, and run by Geoff and Nick from the County team. A fantastic evening, with lots of fun activities included in the quiz. We also hosted our first planning meeting of the year, where it was decided to run our own programme just once a month; as there are so many other events happening for Network throughout the County now, on a regular basis. As if one quiz night wasn’t enough, we also went along to 6th North Watford Scout group annual quiz night, in support of our friends and co-crew team from Lees Wood camp site, Andrew and Barry. Another great event, and we didn’t come last! We ended January on a massive high with a very successful information evening for all Network and Explorers in the District, regarding higher awards (DofE, Chief Scout Awards, Queen Scout Award).
February: We started February, by attending the annual Stevenage beer and cider festival with Stevenage and Hemel Network, closely followed up a few days later by an evening at Rollercity in the town centre. Hemel Network hosted a ‘Shrove Thursday’ event, which saw many pancakes flipped and eaten!
March: Unfortunately, Chiltern Challenge this year has had to be postponed due to the very bad (snow) conditions. However, as the main organisers, Networks from across County had an impromptu camp instead; with Phasels staff running us a ‘Winter Olympics’ event throughout the Saturday. There was a strong presence of Network helping out at District Night Hike, although you may not have seen us as most were walking the sweep team till 4.30am!! Finally, we hosted a backwards cooking evening, which was organised and run entirely by Network members – very proud, as this is what the Network section is all about! Members running activities and events they want to do!
We have a very full programme of events coming in the next few months, so watch this space….
